The standard finish is a gloss-painted exterior hull with a light lower
rubbing band and darker sheer strake. The upper rubbing strake is also
the oak capping rail, which together with the gunwhale, quarter knees,
breasthook and thwart knees can be either oiled or varnished. The
interior of the hull is oiled which preserves the wooden feel of the
dinghy. The sole boards are also oiled while the sweeps are bright
varnished (spoon oars are available although for a sea boat sweeps are
recommended.) A convex brass strip runs from the top of the stem, along
the length of the keel and up onto the transom. The two bilge runners
are also protected with brass strip.
The finish outlined above has become the standard as it is a combines a
quality finish with ease of maintenance. The awful job of rubbing down
the interior is avoided; all that is needed is an annual application of
something similar to Danish Oil or Boiled Linseed Oil, with no
preparation other than cleaning. If bright work is wanted a varnished
capping rail appears particularly glossy in comparison to the
understated matt interior. The exterior gloss will need a light rub down
and repaint once every two, three or four years depending on use and
wear.
Also available are robust clinker launches and the comparatively finer
Admiralty Cutters (such as senior officers would use to come ashore).
Prices will be discussed on the outlining of specification.
The above prices do not include VAT.
